ISA Engages at AMPI Conference and WISTA Breakfast in Adelaide

AMPI Conference – 2–4 November 2025

The Australasian Marine Pilots Institute (AMPI) hosted its annual conference, supported by Flinders Ports as the major sponsor. The event brought together maritime professionals, port authorities, infrastructure leaders, and pilotage experts to tackle critical challenges and opportunities shaping the industry.

ISA presented during Session 1: Navigating the Skills Shortage - Addressing the Maritime Workforce Crisis, alongside Sarah Cerche (Director, Workplace Relations Governance and Policy, MIAL) and Matthew Williams (Secretary General, International Maritime Pilots Association).

Anna Jerrems, Industry Engagement Manager at ISA, highlighted that skills shortages remain one of the maritime sector’s biggest challenges and that effective workforce planning is essential to building a future-ready workforce.

WISTA Breakfast – 5 November 2025

ISA also attended the WISTA Australia Breakfast, themed Blue Horizons: Decarbonise, Digitise, Diversify.

The session featured a presentation by Lee-Ann Breger from Future Freight CRC and a panel discussion facilitated by Donna Jones (President, WISTA Australia) with industry leaders Damian Laughlin, Marnie Hope, and Warren Wood.

The conversation focused on how the maritime industry is responding to decarbonisation and digitalisation, and the importance of diversity in driving these changes.

Inclusion and diversity were highlighted as essential for shaping a resilient, future-ready workforce - insights that will help ISA develop strategies to attract and retain women in maritime careers.

ISA thanks AMPI and WISTA for hosting these valuable events and looks forward to continuing collaboration to strengthen skills and diversity across the maritime sector.

ISA has several projects currently in development in the maritime sector. These initiatives aim to make a real difference to career pathways, skills pipeline and the revalidation and recognition of the current competence model.
