As a member of the Executive Team, the General Manager of Engagement will lead ISA’s national engagement, communications and major events strategy. You will be working closely with government, industry, unions and training providers to help shape the workforce of the future for Australia’s most critical and complex industries, aviation, maritime, rail, transport and logistics, omnichannel logistics, and space transport.
This is a unique opportunity where you will bring a clear, credible and informed voice to every conversation, driving stakeholder collaboration, overseeing ISA’s flagship events, leading a high-performing engagement and communications team, and ensuring ISA is positioned as a trusted leader in shaping workforce solutions.
Domestic travel is a requirement of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and deliver ISA’s national stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with government officials, industry bodies, and training providers.
- Lead and support the planning and execution of ISA’s major events, including the Supply Chain Leaders’ Summit and Roundtables.
- Oversee coordination of ISA’s Strategic Workforce Planning Committees.
- Lead a responsive and agile Communications Team.
- Represent ISA at high level forums and policy discussions.
- Provide strategic advice and reporting to the CEO.
About You
You are a confident, influential leader with:
- Outstanding communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Exceptional organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to operate in a high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional written skills, including proven ability to draft ministerial-level briefings.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role with responsibility for stakeholder engagement, government relations, or communications in a complex policy or industry environment.
- Experience managing high-performing teams and delivering large scale events or campaigns.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of public policy and workforce development,
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence at executive and ministerial levels.
- High level of integrity, judgement, and discretion when dealing with sensitive matters.
- Proactive attitude to troubleshooting and problem solving.
- High level of attention to detail in developing, editing, and reviewing documents.
- Knowledge of, or experience in, the transport and logistics, aviation, rail, maritime, or related sectors.
- Formal qualifications in Public Policy, Communications, Business, Government Relations, or a related field.
- Sound knowledge of the Australian Vocational Education and Training system.

About the Role
You will lead ISA’s engagement with stakeholders across the road transport, logistics and ports sectors of the Transport and Logistics industry to understand their workforce challenges and work in collaboration to create solutions that drive the development of a highly skilled workforce.
As part of a team of professionals, you will work collaboratively to identify trends, opportunities and solutions across the transport supply chain industries.
You will work with industry leaders on the Strategic Workforce Planning Committee to set priority workforce development needs and drive the creation of the annual Transport & Logistics Workforce Plan, which provides industry and governments with an evidence-based roadmap for action to shape the industry’s future workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be a key driver in bridging industry skills needs and workforce development.
- Engage with industry leaders, government officials, unions, and other stakeholders to build trusted and collaborative relationships
- Support industry leaders on the Strategic Workforce Planning Committee to drive the development of the annual industry Workforce Plan
- Work collaboratively with the transport and logistics industry stakeholders to gather intelligence, broker meaningful solutions and promote the career opportunities in the industry
- Participate in industry stakeholder forums and events, providing expertise on industry skills matters, while gathering insights into workforce challenges and potential solutions
- Provide insights on the "future of work" through data interpretation and collaboration with our Research and Analytics Team.
- Contribute to the development of a highly skilled and productive transport and logistics workforce
About You:
To be successful in the role you will need:
- A passion to work collaboratively to build impactful workforce skills solutions that support the development of meaningful careers for individuals, and successful and sustainable businesses in the Transport and Logistics industries
- Strong communication, engagement, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- High level project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Resilience in a complex operating environment and the ability to provide evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience in workforce development and/or skills policy environments. Previous experience in Transport & Logistics industries would be an added advantage.
