Exciting Developments at the Trucking Australia 2025 Conference

Industry Engagement Manager Camilla Elmes recently attended the Trucking Australia 2025 Conference in Adelaide. Hosted by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), the conference served as a vital platform for connecting with key stakeholders in the road freight transport industry. The event provided a comprehensive overview of current industry challenges, innovative initiatives, and emerging trends.

One of the highlights of the conference was the inspiring presentations from the 2025 Daimler Truck Future Leaders. These future leaders shared their research projects and provided recommendations on several critical topics:

  • Communicating Industry Jobs to School Leavers - addressing the need to attract young talent to the trucking industry by effectively communicating the opportunities and benefits of a career in road transport.
  • Truck Drivers and New Technology - exploring how advancements in technology can be integrated into the daily operations of truck drivers, enhancing efficiency and safety.
  • Retaining Workers in the Industry - developing strategies to improve worker retention by addressing the unique challenges faced by employees in the Transport and Logistics sector.

The conference also marked the launch of ATA’s new InRoads Workforce Program. This initiative was welcomed as a valuable resource aimed at promoting the numerous benefits of careers in the trucking industry. The program is designed to support workforce development and address the industry's growing need for skilled professionals.

Session Recap: Building Our Future Trucking Workforce
“Building Our Future Trucking Workforce”, one of the confirmed sessions at the conference, addressed the ongoing challenges posed by the national driver shortage and explored practical solutions to attract and retain talent within the trucking industry.

The session emphasised the essential role of trucking in Australia’s economy and the urgent need to build a sustainable workforce. Attendees were introduced to the ATA’s new workforce initiative, designed to help aspiring entrants better understand the opportunities available in a trucking career.

Key insights were also shared from the Multicultural Driver Roundtable, along with tools and strategies for broadening recruitment efforts across diverse communities. 

The session was presented by Bill Manton, National Training Manager at Simon National Carriers, and Bianca D’Rosario, Director of Marketing and Corporate Partnerships at the ATA. According to the ATA, “The initiative was created to help aspiring entrants understand the potential of a trucking career.”

Celebrating Success at the Gala Awards Dinner
The event concluded with the Gala Awards Dinner; a celebration of the industry's success stories. The dinner recognised and honoured the achievements of award winners and finalists who exemplify excellence in the road transport industry. Congratulations to all the award recipients, whose dedication and hard work serve as a shining example of what can be achieved in this vital sector.
