Exploring Career Pathways at Aldi’s Stapylton Distribution Centre

Last week, Camilla Elmes, our Senior Industry Engagement Manager, joined a guided tour of the Aldi Distribution Centre (DC) in Stapylton, Brisbane, an insightful experience facilitated by the TLI Connect team from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The Stapylton DC is a major hub in Aldi’s supply chain, employing over 450 staff and servicing Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The facility handles a wide range of products, including ambient, chilled, and frozen goods, as well as Aldi’s popular weekly specials.

The tour provided a unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of a modern distribution centre and to highlight the diverse career pathways available in warehousing and logistics; an industry projected to grow by 5.7% (Source: 2024 ISA Workforce Plans). Participants gained first-hand insight into operations and heard directly from Aldi team members about their career journeys, ranging from school leavers to career changers. Each story reflected a shared passion for the sector and a strong culture of growth and development within Aldi.

This experience aligns with Industry Skills Australia’s Career Information Project, which aims to attract new talent and improve retention by providing clear, accessible information about careers and learning pathways in the transport and logistics sector. The project will deliver a companion volume to the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package, targeting a wide range of stakeholders including students, schools, career advisors, training providers, and employers.

By raising awareness, simplifying pathway information, and showcasing opportunities for innovation and progression, the project addresses critical labour and skills shortages—challenges often driven by outdated perceptions and limited access to accurate career information.

The stories from the Aldi team members highlighted the value of supported career progression and the variety of roles available in the sector, making it an inspiring experience for all involved.

A heartfelt thank you to the TLI Connect team for organising the visit, and to the Aldi staff for their warm hospitality and for sharing their experiences so openly.
