Forging Pathways for Sustainable Aviation and Workforce Innovation
Mori Hajizadeh, Aviation Industry Engagement Manager at Industry Skills Australia (ISA), met with Natalie Heazlewood, Head of Policy and Advocacy at the Australian Airports Association (AAA), to discuss key developments and collaborative opportunities in the aviation sector.
The meeting focused on aligning efforts to address workforce challenges and support the sustainable growth of Australia’s aviation industry.

ISA Updates:
- National Workforce Planning: An overview of ISA’s evolving role in shaping national aviation workforce strategies.
- 2025 Aviation Workforce Plan: Insights into the development process and strategic priorities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: A preview of ISA’s current and upcoming engagement activities with aviation stakeholders.
- Collaborative Projects: Discussion of recent workforce initiatives and potential areas for ISA and AAA collaboration.
AAA Focus Areas:
- Passenger Experience: Enhancing service quality and operational efficiency at airports.
- Economic Advocacy: Promoting the critical role of airports in Australia’s national economy.
- Infrastructure Investment: Supporting ongoing upgrades across the airport network.
- Sustainability: Advancing environmentally friendly practices in aviation.
In addition to the meeting with AAA, Mori Hajizadeh delivered a comprehensive presentation to members of the General Aviation Advisory Network (GAAN). The session provided an update on ISA’s latest engagement activities and highlighted several key projects currently underway that align with GAAN’s strategic priorities.
With a number of new initiatives launching in a few months, the presentation served as a valuable opportunity to share progress on several current projects, including:
- Draft Updates to the Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor): ISA is currently reviewing and updating the qualification to ensure it reflects contemporary industry needs and training standards, supporting the development of high-quality flight instructors across the sector.
- Remote Pilot Licence Project: This initiative aims to review and update the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot) to include current industry practices and more closely align the qualification with the Remote Pilot Licence
- Aviation Career Information Project: Designed to support workforce attraction and retention, this project will develop comprehensive career information resources. These will outline job roles, career pathways, and progression opportunities within the aviation industry, helping to inform and inspire the next generation of aviation professionals.
