Glenala Trade Skills Centre Showcases Pathways into Transport and Logistics
The Glenala Trade Skills Centre hosted a business breakfast that brought together educators, students, and industry representatives to highlight the growing opportunities in the Transport and Logistics (T&L) sector. Among the attendees was Camilla Elmes, our Transport & Logistics Industry Engagement Manager, who joined the conversation around building sustainable career pathways for young Australians.
Located at Glenala State High School, the Centre offers students hands-on training in supply chain operations, engineering, and heavy vehicle maintenance within a purpose-built facility. During the breakfast, current and future students shared how these programs have opened doors to meaningful employment, supported by a nurturing school environment and strong industry connections.
This initiative highlights the importance of industry engagement with schools. It aligns with what industry stakeholders have consistently voiced; the need to establish clear career pathways in schools to support the evolving T&L sector and address ongoing skills shortages, particularly in an aging and male-dominated workforce.
Looking ahead, this centre is also critical for attracting students with the skills required for emerging technologies. Today’s generation is growing up immersed in digital tools and innovation, positioning them to build more prosperous careers as the industry transitions to net zero and undergoes digital transformation.
Camilla said “By working closely with education providers, industry can ensure that training remains relevant, purposeful, and aligned with real-world needs. This collaboration is essential to help students transition smoothly into the workforce and to build a more diverse, skilled, and future-ready talent pipeline.”
This aligns with the challenges outlined in the Transport and Logistics Industry 2025 Workforce Plan, which emphasises the need to create clear pathways from school to industry. Our Improving Transport and Logistics Career Information project is actively developing resources to increase visibility and awareness of these pathways, encouraging greater participation across the sector.
A big thank you to Glenala State High School for hosting this impactful event and for their continued commitment to supporting young people in building meaningful careers in transport and logistics.
