Motor Vehicle Driver Training - Completed

This project updated the Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training and ensure all units in the qualification are current.

The role of the professional driver trainer is to educate learner drivers on the knowledge, attitude, and skills for the efficient and safe operation of a motor vehicle on our public roads.

The Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training is used to train light, heavy vehicle and motorcycle driving instructors. Currently this qualification includes two core units of competency from the TAE - Training and Education Training Package which have been superseded.

This project updated the superseded units and ensured all units in the qualification were current. Ensuring the qualification is up to date is particularly important as this role is already in high demand especially with the proposed licensing reforms being developed under the Review of the National Heavy Vehicle Driver Competency Framework. These reforms included minimum training requirements for driver training and a focus on training and assessment standards.

Skills Ministers have endorsed the Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training, which has been updated to help meet the high demand for driving instructors.

The role of the professional driver trainer is to educate learner drivers on the knowledge, attitude, and skills for the efficient and safe operation of a motor vehicle on our public roads.

The qualification is used to train light, heavy vehicle and motorcycle driving instructors. A Technical committee of subject matter experts has reviewed the qualification and updated the following superseded units from the TAE - Training and Education Training Package:

  • TAEASS311 - Contribute to assessment
  • TAEDEL311 - Provide work skill instruction
What does this mean for Registered Training Organisations?

The revised training products are included in Release 16.0 of the Transport and Logistics Training Package. Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will need to update their training resources to reflect the updates.

To support the delivery and implementation of the revised training products, the Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG) has been updated to assist assessors, trainers, RTOs and enterprises. The CVIG contains comprehensive list of all products in the Training Package; including mapping information which details the changes that have been made to the training products; implementation advice, and useful links to other information.

The endorsed Training Package products are now available on training.gov.au
