Industry Skills Australia (ISA) is developing tailored career resources for the Aviation, Maritime, Rail, and Transport & Logistics sectors to support workforce attraction, retention, and progression.
This Improving Career Information initiative aims to raise awareness of careers across the transport supply chain by providing clear, accessible information on career pathways, training, skills and knowledge requirements.
In collaboration with Education Services Australia (ESA), we’re gathering insights to ensure these resources reflect real industry needs.
We’re inviting employers and employees to complete short, anonymous surveys to help us understand what career information is most valuable and how it should be delivered. Your input will directly shape practical, relevant tools that will help grow the workforce across the Transport Supply Chain.
- Employers – Share your insights and encourage your team to participate
- Employees – Tell us what career info would help you most
Surveys close Friday 14 November 2025.

A request for tender, seeking a service provider(s) to develop job role and career information resources for the Rail industry, was released on 26 February and closed on March 27, 2025.
Industry Skills Australia is currently evaluating the submissions to identify the most suitable applicant.
ISA’s 2024 Workforce Plans identified several challenges common across the Aviation, Maritime, Rail, Transport, and Logistics industries. Critical labour and skills shortages are one such challenge and have been exacerbated by limited access to accurate information on job roles and career pathways, and outdated perceptions of industry.
To address this issue, and with the support of our Strategic Workforce Planning Committees, ISA has initiated four discrete projects to develop career information specific to Aviation, Maritime, Rail, Transport, and Logistics occupations.
The Rail industry plays a pivotal role in the Australian economy and workforce is expected to increase by 7.2% in the five years to 2028 and 11.6% to 2033. Addressing current challenges such as skill shortages and misconceptions about careers in Rail is crucial.
This project will expand on previous work undertaken in the Seamless Future Rail Skills project and create a companion volume to the Transport and Logistics Training Package that provides comprehensive information for Rail occupations. Information will be targeted at a broad range of stakeholders including job seekers, career guidance counsellors, schools, students, employment service providers, training providers, employers, industry peak bodies and other organisations associated with the Rail industries.
It will achieve a range of benefits including:
- raising awareness of careers in the Rail industry
- supplying simplified details on pathways, training, skills and knowledge requirements for employment
- showcasing industry’s potential for innovation and progression
- providing guidance on career development and growth
- attracting a broader and more diverse talent pool to the Rail sector
- A Companion Volume to the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package which includes comprehensive information on:
- key job roles, role descriptions and skills and knowledge requirements
- qualifications and training programs available for each role
- career pathway mapping information for priority occupations.
