Transport and logistics are critical to Australia’s freight network, making strong leadership and operational expertise essential to attracting talent and meeting growing industry demand. The Diploma of Logistics (TLI50224) has long supported the development of these capabilities; however, enrolments have declined, and industry feedback indicates the qualification no longer reflects current or emerging workforce needs.
In response to this feedback, and aligned with the priorities identified in the Transport and Logistics 2025 Workforce Plan, the project will address several key areas, including:
- Emerging technologies and digital transformation
- Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) compliance
- Leadership capability in compliance, sustainability, and workforce wellbeing
- Skills in cyber security and data analytics
What This Means for Industry
This project will ensure the qualification reflects contemporary industry expectations and prepares learners for future workforce requirements. The updated Diploma will support the development of senior management skills across diverse supply chain environments and provide clearer progression opportunities from entry‑level roles through to advanced leadership positions.
The project will also strengthen pathways from Certificate I–IV in Supply Chain Operations to the Advanced Diploma of Supply Chain Management, creating a clearer and more connected training pathway.
This project will:
- Review and update:
- 2 qualifications:
- TLI50224 Diploma of Logistics
- TLI50716 Diploma of Bus and Coach Operations
- 41 units of competency (including merging, removing, or developing new units as required)
- 9 skill sets
- Maintain out of scope qualifications
- 2 qualifications:
- Rename the qualification to Diploma of Supply Chain Management to better reflect its scope and support clearer progression pathways.
- Incorporate passenger transport units as a specialist stream, where appropriate, to maintain relevant skills from the Diploma of Bus and Coach Operations
- Update the Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG).
The reviewed training products are due to be submitted to the Assurance Body by 24 September 2027.
Industry Skills Australia (ISA) will engage with stakeholders throughout the life of the project and consider all ideas, opinions, and feedback to the revised training products to ensure they meet the needs of industry. A consultation log containing a high-level summary of all feedback and ISA’s response will be maintained and available on our website.
ISA will facilitate a webinar following endorsement of the training products to support stakeholders in understanding the changes and how they will affect them.
