Strengthening Workforce Pathways in Freight Forwarding at the IFCBAA NSW Trade and Logistics Forum
Camilla represented Industry Skills Australia (ISA) at the International Forwarders & Customs Brokers Association of Australia (IFCBAA) NSW Trade and Logistics Forum, engaging with key stakeholders from the freight forwarding sector.
The forum provided a valuable opportunity to present the 2025 Transport and Logistics Workforce Plan, offering a deep dive into workforce and training data relevant to the sector. One of the key challenges highlighted in the Plan is the shortage of workers in the Customs Broking occupation, with a significant portion of the current workforce approaching retirement age.
Industry feedback has emphasised the need to create clear pathways for workers to gain experience and progress into higher roles, particularly within Customs Broking. This is essential to ensure continuity and productivity in a sector that plays a critical role in the movement of goods to and from Australia.
Despite its importance, there is limited public awareness of the diverse career opportunities available in freight forwarding. To address this, ISA has launched the Improving Career Information project, aimed at developing resources that support the attraction and retention of workers in the Transport and Logistics industries. These resources will help raise awareness of career options, provide accessible information on pathways and training, and offer guidance on career development and growth, ultimately benefiting both industry and workforce participants.
ISA extends its sincere thanks to IFCBAA for the invitation to present at the Forum and for fostering meaningful dialogue around workforce development in this vital sector.
