The role of the professional driver trainer is to educate learner drivers on the knowledge, attitude, and skills for the efficient and safe operation of a motor vehicle on our public roads.
The Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training is used to train light, heavy vehicle and motorcycle driving instructors. Currently this qualification includes two core units of competency from the TAE - Training and Education Training Package which have been superseded.
This project will update the superseded units and ensure all units in the qualification are current. Ensuring the qualification is up to date is particularly important as this role is already in high demand especially with the proposed licensing reforms being developed under the Review of the National Heavy Vehicle Driver Competency Framework. These reforms include minimum training requirements for driver training and a focus on training and assessment standards.
This project will update:
Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training
This project will also:
- update the Transport and Logistics Companion Volume Implementation Guide.
- produce a mapping document identifying changes made.
The reviewed training products are due to be submitted to the Assurance Body by 23 January 2025.
Industry Skills Australia (ISA) will engage with stakeholders throughout the life of the project and consider all ideas, opinions, and feedback to the revised training products to ensure they meet the needs of industry. A consultation log containing a high-level summary of all feedback and ISA’s response will be maintained and available on our website.
